Dons turn up the heat

MK Dons maintained the pressure on Sky Bet League One leaders Bristol City as they secured a 1-0 win at Notts County thanks to Daniel Powell's fifth goal of the season.

In an entertaining contest at Meadow Lane the Dons had taken the lead in the 31st minute when Powell slipped Karl Robinson's side in front after good work from Benik Afobe.

Notts hit back strong through Blair Adams, who saw a fierce drive tipped around the post by Dons goalkeeper David Martin as the home side went in search of an equaliser.

County should have pulled level in the second half when Colby Bishop sent Ronan Murray clear on goal, but the latter drilled a shot straight at Martin.

Chances were coming thick and fast for both sides with Stephen McLaughlin denied by Martin, while Jake Cassidy saw a low shot whistle past a post.

But the Dons showed their qualities too and came within a whisker of a second goal when Dele Alli's effort hit the foot of a post from 20 yards.

There was time for a late Notts penalty appeal when Garry Thompson went down under a challenge from Kyle McFazdean, but referee Andrew Madley was uninterested.
