McParland reiterates league focus

James Coppinger's goal early in the second half settled the first round tie at Meadow Lane. McParland was disappointed the Magpies did not progress after being pleased with his side's performance, but the Scot insists getting promotion from League Two is the priority this season. "The league is the priority but I still wanted to win this game and I put a team out there that was capable of winning," said McParland. "I hate losing any game but if I was asked if I'd rather get promoted and get knocked out of the cup in the first round I would take it. "That said, I thought we were absolutely brilliant in the first half. People would have thought we were the Championship side. We hit the bar and hit the post and had a great chance at the near post with Karl Hawley. Luke Rodgers also had a couple of chances. "But we will dust ourselves down and get ready for Macclesfield on Saturday. It will be a tough game, they will be big, strong and organised and we must go to places like that and grind out results."
