Magpies want Pompey's Ritchie
The Magpies have held talks with Pompey with a view to signing the 19-year-old, who impressed during a loan spell at Dagenham last season, for an undisclosed fee.
McParland told the Nottingham Evening Post: "I have been tracking him since the end of last season but I didn't know if I'd be able to get him.
"I spoke to Paul (Hart, the Portsmouth manager) about him a few weeks back. I want to build a future for this football club and at 19, he is one for the future.
"There has been dialogue and figures have been spoken about."
