Magpies rubbish Hamann reports

Speculation has claimed Hamann, who played under the Magpies' new director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson at Manchester City, has been offered a player/coach role at Meadow Lane. Hamann is available on a free transfer after being released by City in the summer and the 35-year-old German has been linked with the likes of Hull City, Preston North End and 1860 Munich. Veteran defender Campbell has also been mooted as a possible signing for the Magpies, but McParland has moved to quell suggestions of big names arriving at the club. McParland told the Nottingham Evening Post: "It really baffles me, some of these people who make these stories up. "I don't know where they come from. I have a chuckle at times. "I have got players in my mind who I want to bring in and we will keep pursuing them. "I don't just want to bring any players in. They have to be right to fit into my dressing room because we have got a great bunch of boys with a good team spirit. "It will not just be down to the player's ability, it will be down to what he is like as a lad. I don't want any big-time Charlies. "I want players who can come in and fit in with the boys we have already got, who want to go out and play for each other. Team spirit is so important."
