Magpies steal win

Two goals in six second-half minutes helped Notts County to a comfortable 3-0 win at Leyton Orient.

The win keeps the Magpies' play-off hopes alive while the Os are looking nervously over their shoulders as they sit just above the drop zone in League One after suffering their 11th home defeat of the season.

The visitors took the lead after 70 minutes when Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones, playing his first match of the season after shoulder and wrist injuries, got tangled up with defender Terrell Forbes as he collected a cross from Alan Sheehan and dropped the ball.

In the ensuing scramble, Damion Stewart reacted quickest to slam the loose ball into the net from close range.

County extended their lead six minutes later when substitute Jeff Hughes claimed his 16th goal of the season when he was left with the simplest of tap-ins from four yards after winger Lloyd Sam had carved the opening.

Orient had dictated the first half and were denied by a string of outstanding saves by their former goalkeeper Stuart Nelson. Their misery was completed when Sam slammed the ball into the net from 12 yards after Jones had punched out a powerful strike from Alan Judge.
