Hughes was arrested and bailed after police were called to a hotel in Croydon where the team were staying before an FA Cup tie against Sutton United.
Notts County have released a statement on their website saying: "Notts County can confirm that striker Lee Hughes has, on Monday, been charged in relation to an alleged incident in December of last year.
"The club will be making no further comment on this matter."
