Kevan ready to step aside at County

Two late goals in quick succession saw League Two County pull off a major upset at the DW Stadium to set up a fifth-round trip to Fulham a week on Sunday.[LNB]The result extended Kevan's overall record this season to eight matches unbeaten during his two spells as caretaker manager, in which he has managed to sustain the club's cup run and promotion challenge despite facing huge financial difficulties.[LNB]However, he has always maintained that he does not want the job full-time and, with the Magpies reported to have found the investment to stave off a winding-up order, Kevan is ready to stand aside once the situation has stabilised.[LNB]Asked if he wanted the job on a permanent basis, Kevan said: "No, I'm just day to day and trying to keep things going.[LNB]"I think, hopefully if the investment gets sorted out, I'm pretty sure there will be a new manager along then."[LNB]After surviving a host of Wigan chances at the start of the second half, County took a shock lead in the 75th minute when Stephen Hunt headed home Ben Davies' corner.[LNB]The hosts were then left stunned as Gary Caldwell's own goal made it 2-0 three minutes later to send County's travelling supporters into delirium.[LNB]"It's a fantastic night for everyone involved," said Kevan.[LNB]"To see our supporters celebrate a victory like we've had there this evening makes everyone very proud and we have a fantastic group of players.[LNB]"Everyone has really worked very hard and tonight is a very, very memorable night for us all.[LNB]"We expected a very tough game and that's exactly what we had. Credit to the lads, who worked very hard.[LNB]"We surrendered a fair amount of possession, as you would expect against a very good Premier League team that play fantastic football.[LNB]"But the lads were very disciplined and very concentrated and when they did break through us Kasper (Schmeichel) was there to make some fantastic saves."[LNB]Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was left to rue his team's profligacy in front of goal, with Jason Scotland setting the tone early on after shooting straight at Schmeichel when put through one on one.[LNB]"We just allowed ourselves to get frustrated with the performance," Martinez said.[LNB]"I think we all knew what to expect in this sort of game; they are going to get a lot of players behind the ball and work extremely hard.[LNB]"But we created a lot of chances. Probably the first one was a clear example of the game - in these situations you need to score the first goal and that changes the game completely.[LNB]"But you could see that we were getting frustrated and, even though we started well in the second half, we couldn't get the first goal.[LNB]"When that happens, there is that risk and you know you have a lot to lose. You are at home and the upset is on the cards, and I think we felt that way.[LNB]"But today is a day to congratulate Notts County and allow them to enjoy a huge achievement in going through to the fifth round.[LNB]"For us, it is to learn a few lessons, knowing that we have been a little bit low in terms of confidence in front of goal."[LNB][LNB]
