Kevan hopes for second go at Wigan
The financially-troubled League Two club, 62 places below Saturday's Premier League opponents Wigan, were riding the crest of a wave come the half-time break.[LNB]Lee Hughes' 20th goal of the season and a superb 25-yard free-kick from Ben Davies had County dreaming of a remarkable upset in front of their own fans at Meadow Lane.[LNB]The Latics, though, had other ideas as first Jason Scotland finally ended his goal drought since a £2million summer move from Swansea, pulling one back in the 53rd minute of his 21st appearance for the club.[LNB]Thirty minutes later, and following three fine saves from debutant goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic, 70th-minute substitute Ben Watson headed home the equaliser to set up a February 2 replay at the DW Stadium.[LNB]Although that game is just 11 days away, and Kevan has been in charge since mid-December, given the state of flux at a club that faces a second winding-up order this season on Wednesday, he is unsure as to what his future holds.[LNB]Asked as to whether he would still be at the helm for the replay, he replied: "I don't know. I really couldn't answer that.[LNB]"We're just taking it a day at a time, a game at a time, so who knows.[LNB]"Hopefully things will be resolved shortly in the next week or so.[LNB]"I've said from day one, I'm not interested in the job. I'm looking after things."[LNB]Kevan insists the permanent job is beyond him, adding: "This is a big club and a big project which hopefully will kick in again, and they're going to need an experienced manager to see that through."[LNB]Appreciably, despite Wigan's late reprieve, he was delighted with how his players performed against top-flight opponents.[LNB]"I'm just pleased they were able to stay focused and put in that type of performance, and credit to them for that," assessed Kevan.[LNB]"I thought the lads were fantastic, but when we look at it again in the cold light of day, we'll have mixed feelings.[LNB]"They know they've had a great opportunity to cause an upset, and sadly that hasn't quite developed.[LNB]"But they can take massive credit for today's performance, and if they can repeat that sort of level, it will stand us in good stead for the remainder of the season."[LNB]Kevan insists winning in the replay is certainly not beyond his team, adding: "It's another opportunity to progress.[LNB]"We'll go there and look forward to it, and we'll certainly be ready for it.[LNB]"Can we win it? If we perform to the level we have today, then who knows?"[LNB]Wigan boss Roberto Martinez described their first-half performance as unacceptable, and was relieved to have come away with another shot at reaching the fifth round.[LNB]"I want to give credit to Notts County because the way they started the game, they were outstanding and deserve the replay," reflected Martinez.[LNB]"Many of my players have never played in the FA Cup, and I don't think they expected what they experienced in the first half.[LNB]"That's not an excuse because we were slow, sloppy and encouraged pressure from Notts County, and we had no direction in our play.[LNB]"We gave them a well-deserved two-goal lead, and for us it was a real test of character, a real challenge.[LNB]"I'm delighted with the reaction, delighted we found the answers because earlier in the season we would have folded.[LNB]"That's why I'm so pleased because we've learned our lessons from earlier in the campaign."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
