Hunt ready for intense pre-season

A groin problem sidelined the 24-year-old until November last season. Hunt was unable to make up the lost time and managed just 11 appearances during the remainder of the campaign. He is determined to start the new season as one of the Magpies' first-choice centre halves and wants to be in top physical condition for the start of pre-season training on July 1. "The manager has told us he wants us back in decent shape so I've started doing a bit of running," Hunt told the Evening Post. "I've missed it since the end of the season. I want to be on the front foot when we go back and ready to go. "I need a good pre-season after last year. I remember cycling alongside the lads as they were doing their running. I could see the hurt in their faces but it hurt me even more because I couldn't join in because of my injury. "I want to stake a claim to start the season. It's achievable, I believe in my ability."
