The versatile defender was set to be out of contract this summer and his future at Meadow Lane was in doubt after an injury-plagued 2008/09 campaign.
But the 24-year-old is determined to put his problems behind him and get his career back on track next season.
He told the club's official website: "It has been a tough 18 months really, but I am anxious to draw a line under that and make a fresh start.
"I know it was touch and go whether I was offered a new deal so I am grateful for the lifeline I have been given.
"I was always playing catch up last season and I just didn't do myself justice. Now I have to get myself in gear because next season is going to be massive for me."
