The 33-year-old, who is a free agent after his contract with Oldham expired last month, was offered a deal by the ambitious League Two club a week ago. Hughes was at Meadow Lane on Friday morning for talks with Magpies manager Ian McParland and club officials. A statement read: "Notts County would like to confirm that, despite lengthy talks, an agreement is yet to be reached to sign striker Lee Hughes. "A very generous package has been offered but terms are yet to be agreed." Hughes has scored 141 goals in 344 career appearances for Kidderminster, West Brom, Coventry, Oldham and Blackpool.
