Davies double in County cruise

Ben Davies scored a first-half brace as Notts County ran out comfortable 4-0 winners over Yeovil at Meadow Lane. The Magpies took the lead in the 24th minute when a long punt out of defence fell for Craig Westcarr, who evaded two defenders to chip the ball delicately over Glovers goalkeeper John Sullivan. Five minutes later, a clever back-heel from the returning Lee Hughes set up Davies to power his shot through Sullivan, whose fumbled save only parried the ball into the net off his near post. Davies pounced again in first-half injury-time, picking up on Kevin Smith's ball in from the left and firing a low effort past Sullivan. In the second half, Yeovil's best chance came when Paul Huntington headed Andy Welsh's corner straight into the hands of Stuart Nelson, then another piece of skill from Hughes set up Westcarr to shoot wide. The Magpies saved the best until last though, as Davies turned provider, lofting a through pass to Hughes, who chested down before volleying home with 16 minutes to go.
