Butcher, the Magpies' leading scorer last season with a career record tally of 12 goals, along with fellow midfielders Nowland and Strachan, defender Tann and striker Forrester will all be leaving Meadow Lane. Manager Ian McParland told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It is not a good time, but I think it's the right decision." Veteran defender Michael Johnson is to retire after County's final game of the season at Wycombe on Saturday, leaving only eight players under contract for next season. They are goalkeepers Russell Hoult and Kevin Pilkington, defenders Jamie Clapham, John Thompson and Mike Edwards, midfielder Matt Hamshaw and strikers Sean Canham and Delroy Facey. McParland plans to make a decision on the futures of defender Stephen Hunt and young forward Ben Fairclough next week.
