Burch becomes first signing of the season

Notts tie up deal for Lincoln goalkeeper. It's official, we're out of the confusing footballing wilderness that is transfer embargo land. This milestone has been celebrated at Meadow Lane with the club's first signing of this year, Lincoln City goalkeeper Rob Burch. This is not only a move that will please Craig Short, given that there were previously no goalkeepers on the Magpies' books, but has also provoked an angry reaction from the Imps who expected Burch to sign for Chelsea, Manchester United, Doncaste Rovers or someone similar. Burch came through the youth system at Tottenham Hotspur, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday. He enjoyed a loan spell in League Two with Barnet, saving a penalty at Meadow Lane along the way, before ending up at Lincoln City on a free transfer. Two successful seasons at Sincil Bank have now seen him back in the same division as the Wednesday side who let him go. Burch is almost certain to be the Magpies' number one for next season, with the lack of promises on first team footballing having buried a potential move to Doncaster Rovers.
