Bowditch training with Magpies
The 23-year-old, who was a transfer target for Magpies manager Ian McParland last summer, is a free agent.
Bowditch linked up with County for the start of pre-season training on Monday and he could join the club on their tour of Austria next week if he impresses.
"We monitored Dean last year but for whatever reason we didn't manage to get him here," said McParland. "He is looking to get himself settled and get his career up and running again and we are only too pleased to offer him the chance.
"Dean has a lot of good attributes and perhaps in recent years he hasn't fulfilled the potential he had as a youngster. We will have a good look at him and see where it takes us, but the ball is firmly in his court."
Bowditch made his Ipswich debut aged 16 and made 82 appearances for the club scoring eight goals. He spent three months on loan at Brentford last season and was released by Roy Keane in May.
