Akinbiyi debut set to be put on hold
The 34-year-old striker joined the Magpies last week following his release by Houston Dynamo but is unlikely to receive international clearance until Monday.
Akinbiyi may feature against Bradford in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday but McParland is keen to arrange a behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday to allow him to build up fitness.
Defender Graeme Lee is still out with the groin injury which has kept him out of the last eight games and will miss the Cheltenham match but is also likely to feature in Wednesday's friendly.
McParland could name an unchanged side for the third consecutive game following wins over Port Vale and Lincoln.
