Will Forest stick with Davies or twist to Warnock?
A surprise name is in the frame to become the new Reds manager With the future of Billy Davies still uncertain despite top-level meetings with the club hierarchy, the Nottingham Evening Post believes that Neil Warnock is a shock contender to replace the Scot should he leave the club this summer. That is based on the view that Queens Park Rangers will want a bigger name than Warnock for their return to the Premier League and his name has been added to those of Chris Hughton, Malky Mackay and Derek McInnes of St Johnstone on the shortlist. With a host of players soon to be out of contract, the Reds board may feel that parting company with Davies will allow any new manager a fresh start to begin reshaping the squad within revised transfer guidelines that will see players sourced from the lower divisions where possible rather than looking to the top-flight for signings and loan deals. But, despite the disappointments of the last two play-off campaigns, Davies remains a man with a proven track record in the Championship and would be able to strongly defend his record in charge especially given what he would see as a lack of backing in the transfer market at crucial stages of the past two seasons.
