Scotland job not for former Forest boss

Is it easy to get back aboard the managerial merry-go-round?

Former Nottingham Forest gaffer Billy Davies has said he is not interested in becoming the new manager of his country's football team in the wake of Craig Levein's sacking as Scotland boss.

"I'm not ready for the job. It's not the right job for me at this time," Davies told BBC Scotland after being mentioned as one of a number of possible candidates for the post.

Davies clearly has plenty left to offer in club management but his increasingly lengthy absence from the game begs the question as to why some managers seem to find work much easier than others despite what, on paper, appear to be worse records.

No-one could doubt the quality of the jobs that Davies performed at Preston North End, Derby County and then with Forest, getting all three teams to punch above their weight given the resources available to him at the time.

Since his City Ground exit he has been linked with Rangers and, of course, a return to the Reds but remains on the outside looking in. That may be through choice but may also be the result of a reputation that built up for being a spiky character, ready to air his grievances readily when feeling the need to do so.
