Pompey head for Nottingham amid liquidation fears

The Championship season ends at the City Ground on Saturday as Nottingham Forest entertain Portsmouth

Although both clubs know their fate for the current campaign with the Reds safe and Pompey relegated, the game still has plenty of significance, not least for home boss Steve Cotterill as he faces up to the club he left to take on the Forest job.

Portsmouth's financial problems saw them deducted ten points for going into administration and effectively consigned them to the drop but, with no progress being made on a new owner for the club, there are genuine fears that this could be a last game in their current guise.

On the day that Football League clubs voted to adopt new financial fair play rules, league chairman Greg Clarke told Sky Sports News: "Unless someone comes with significant capital to invest in that club, the club will be liquidated by the administrators.

"So it all depends if someone turns up with millions of pounds to invest in Portsmouth.

"The size of that bill may be too big for the local fans, I think the people of Portsmouth are doing their best to raise money, but it's a big ask to raise tens of millions of pounds from football fans."
