Forest look to new stadium
20 Jun 2007 - 13:01:21
Nottingham Forest have unveiled plans to build a new 50,000 capacity stadium, after deciding that the cost of redeveloping the City Ground would be too great.
The League One club hopes that a new stadium will help to revive their fortunes and create jobs for the local economy.
Chief executive Mark Arthur told Forest's official website: "All our supporters will know that we've looked at the possibility of rebuilding the main stand at the City Ground.
"But the reality is that we'd still be left with a stadium that was old and will always have huge challenges in terms of access.
"Now there's an opportunity to go to a new, modern stadium that can seat up to 50,000 with excellent access and facilities. We believe looking at this is a duty we owe to our supporters and local people.
"The stadium could help generate a dynamic and vibrant new community in Nottingham, with jobs, infrastructure and opportunity all there. So this is the chance to make a new vision for the city and the club."
