    Forest in for Chambers

    31 Jan 2007 - 07:56:58

Nottingham Forest have landed Northampton Town defender Luke Chambers for an undisclosed fee.

Chambers has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with Forest where he will link up with former Cobblers and now City Ground manager Colin Calderwood.

The 21-year-old has made 35 appearances for Northampton this season but was out of contract in the summer.

"We are sorry to see Luke go but we feel this is another move that is in the best interests of the club and player," Town manager Stuart Gray told the club's official website.

"Luke is a young player with a lot of potential and he will feel this move allows him to build on the fantastic start he has made to his career.

"From our point of view, the club offered him an extension to his contract but he decided not to sign it and, rather than take our chances in the summer at a tribunal, we have decided to do a deal now on our terms.

"We were not looking for Luke to leave but with his contract running out we did not have much choice."
