Forest fight pleases Davies
28 Jan 2009 - 10:52:51
Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies hailed his injury-ravaged side after their 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the City Ground.
Davies had only 17 fit first-team players at his disposal, but a youthful squad responded to secure a fifth win in six games.
However, the three points came at a cost as Davies saw both first-choice strikers Robert Earnshaw and Nathan Tyson limp out of the game.
"In view of everything, the players showed tremendous courage to battle through and pick up another fantastic three points," he told the club's official website.
"When you think that 12 players in our squad were under 22 years of age it puts everything into perspective, but they show a great work ethic and there is also a great team spirit among them.
"These players are a joy to work with. They might lack experience but they deserve huge credit for the effort they are putting in.
"There were times, like at the start of the match, that they showed their age and naivety because we certainly gave the ball away far too often for our own good.
"But after conceding a goal we showed a determination to turn the game around and the players deserve tremendous credit for doing that against a very well-organised side who have been put together over two or three years."
