Manager Billy Davies was full of praise for his players after they secured a crucial 1-0 win at home to Coventry City.
A James Perch strike proved decisive at the City Ground and lifted Forest out of the bottom three with just two games to play.
Davies told the Evening Post: "I was always quietly confident that we would get out of trouble, that we would stay up.
"We have edged ourselves away from the situation a little bit and now one or two others could get sucked in. It was a huge win for us.
"We defended really well, it was a big, big effort from everyone and we had to do that in the second half, when they started to throw one or two long balls in there.
"It is a great answer again to the question of whether this team can play under pressure.
"I said that to them at the end 'it was a fantastic effort, a great performance and a great three points'."
