Veteran striker Andrew Cole will continue his comeback from a calf injury by taking part in a behind closed doors friendly for Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
The former Manchester United and England striker has returned to first-team action for the Championship club in the last few weeks.
But after missing the start of the campaign through injury, Forest boss Colin Calderwood is keen to boost the evergreen forward's fitness in a specially arranged game against Crewe.
Nottingham-born Cole arrived at the City Ground on a one-year contract in June following his release by Sunderland.
"With the reserves having a big gap in their fixture list it has given us a problem in terms of getting players on the field, so we managed to arrange this game with Crewe to help the likes of Andrew," Calderwood told the club's official website.
