Breckin heads out of Forest
04 May 2009 - 15:38:56
Nottingham Forest defender Ian Breckin has been told he will not be offered a new contract at The City Ground.
The 33-year-old played the last of his 162 games for the club following his transfer from Wigan Athletic four years ago, in Sunday's final match of the season against Southampton.
Forest boss Billy Davies said: "Ian's been an absolute joy to work with since I joined the club. He's performed very well and, when he was left out of the side, he took it like the true professional that he is.
"At his age he needs to be playing on a regular basis because he's got too much to offer. But one thing that I can't guarantee next season is for Brecks to be playing week in, week out."
Davies also hopes to sign loanees Chris Gunter and Dexter Blackstock on permanent deals this summer.
"I'm going to meet with the board this week and discuss things," he added.
"If I had the option of taking Gunter permanently I'd do so. But if his club say no, I'd be delighted to take him on a season-long loan.
"We've touched base with QPR with regard to Dexter. We're trying to find out about fees and such like. The conversation has begun."
