The centre-half, who celebrates his 24th birthday on Thursday, played 45 minutes of a 2-0 defeat to Watford on Wednesday afternoon.

Wilson has not figured at all this campaign after suffering an ankle injury in a pre-season game against city rivals Notts County.

On his return, boss Billy Davies said: "It's good news for us and him because it has been a frustrating time for the lad. Nobody likes to miss out at the start of the season.

"He is nearer to being back in the first-team frame. It's important for us to have him available again."
