Nigel Doughty's death has caused shock both in the football world and beyond

Traditional rivals to the Reds have posted messages of sympathy on their official club websites while Doughty's passion for the Labour party has also seen current leader Ed Miliband and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown pay tribute.

Doughty himself and former football consultant David Pleat attracted their share of criticism over the past few seasons especially but Pleat spoke for many over the weekend when he said: "He was a thoroughly decent man.

"He loved Forest, it was his pride. And he was determined to get it back to the promised land."
