Away form had been a problem for the Tigers who now return to their KC Stadium stronghold for a crucial game against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
"We were far more resolute and tough than we have been and it has worked," said Bruce after Stephen Quinn's winner at Turf Moor.
"Credit to the players because it wasn't easy at all.
"We've got a group who are capable of mounting a challenge and we've given ourselves a wonderful opportunity now."
