Shortened pitch aids Reds - Davies

The Reds have taken more than five metres off the width of the playing surface at the City Ground over the summer. Davies insists the narrower pitch will help his side close down the opposition and make the most of the pace in Forest's ranks when launching counter-attacks. "The narrow pitch will help the situation for us this season. We have to be a better pressing team and we could not press the opposition effectively last season because the pitch was too wide," said the Scot. "It will help us to get forward quicker as well. Last season it took longer because the width of the pitch was so significant. It took time to pass the ball across it and work forwards. "The new pitch allows our strikers to chase down the opposition back four, it makes us narrower and more compact throughout. It will allow us to attack quicker and get the ball into wide areas more efficiently to get balls into the box. "We are a different monster this season and this pitch will only help us make the most of that."
