Alex McLeish's decision to drop Lee Camp from his Forest side and tell the goalkeeper he is free to find a new club has been backed.

Former Reds star Garry Birtles used his column in the Nottingham Evening Post to say that the decision 'will have left the rest of the Nottingham Forest dressing room sitting up and taking notice' and will send out a message that the new manager is not a man to be messed with.

Speculation continues about a big-name replacement for Camp but, in the meantime, the decision to recall Karl Darlow from his loan at Walsall and hand the youngster his chance proved a sound one against Peterborough on Saturday.

It certainly was popular with Darlow, who tweeted: 'Amazing to play in front of the homes fans for the first time, brilliant experience, loved every minute!'

"Karl was marvellous," said McLeish after the game.

"The kid was really cool. I just told him to do what he had been doing to get into the team. I told him he did not need to be fancy or add anything to his game."
