The £1m summer signing arrived at the City Ground after five years with Southampton, where he suffered the heartbreak of relegation last season. The 21-year-old revealed he came back to Nottingham purely for footballing reasons despite his previous connections to the city with local rivals Notts County. "As soon as Southampton were relegated, I set my heart on staying in the Championship for the good of my career," McGoldrick told the club's official website. "A few years ago, I wanted desperately to move back to Nottingham but as I got older that became less of an issue. My decision to join Forest was mainly based purely on football. "I had a few options but once I became aware that Forest were interested, they were my number one choice."
