McParland finds himself at the centre of a whirlwind of media speculation following the dramatic appointment of Sven-Goran Eriksson as director of football at Meadow Lane, but Davies believes his counterpart is more than capable of staying out of the Swede's shadow. "A lot of credit has to go to the Notts County manager. Maybe one or two people will soon start to realise how good he is at his job," said Davies, speaking after his side's 2-1 friendly defeat to County on Saturday. "He is a guy that deserves to be at this club for a long, long time. I knew him as a player and he coaches the way he played. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he is a fantastic motivator. "He is what he is, he demands the same from his players and his teams. But he deserves great credit and I hope he gets it. "All I can say is that I have known him for a long time, I know how hard he works on the training ground and if people stick by him he will go very high in this game."
