Joe Garner could still have a future at Nottingham Forest, according to Reds boss Billy Davies.
The striker was sent out on loan for the second time this season on transfer deadline day, joining Championship rivals Scunthorpe for the remainder of the campaign.
"It is difficult to say what the future holds, football can change very quickly. But, at this moment in time, he needs to be playing games," said Davies.
"He is down the pecking order behind the likes of Robert Earnshaw, David McGoldrick, Nathan Tyson and others so we wanted to get games under his belt.
"We will get to the end of the season and see what happens but it is important for him to be playing football."
