The Scot guided the City Ground outfit to safety at the end of the recent campaign, but did so with an unbalanced squad that included a large number of loan players. Davies feels a group of around 22 will help him stabilise Forest in the second tier next season, allowing him to have quality cover in every position. "We need a minimum of 22 players," he told the Nottingham Evening Post. "But we don't want a massive squad. We don't want too many. "We want it to be a tight-knit squad. Then we can add one or two players to that during the season, as and when. There will be players who leave the club, who will move to get regular football. There will also be young players who go out on loan. "Then we will look to bring in the right amount of players to allow us to have two good quality players in each position, without having to have square pegs in round holes."
