Forest boss eyes defensive boost

Forest kick-off the season at Reading on Saturday with a squad bolstered by nine new signings, but Davies is frustrated that the club did not land any of their defensive targets. Matt Mills joined Reading this week while the Reds also failed with bids for Dan Fox and Shaun Barker, who opted for a move to East Midlands rivals Derby. With James Perch and Julian Bennett both sidelined with long-term injuries, Davies has warned Forest could quickly be hit by a crisis. "We thank the chairman and the board for their support, but let us not be kidded, we only signed that amount of players due to inactivity in the January transfer window," said the Scot. "We still have huge gaps at the back and I don't think we are ready for promotion, if I'm honest. Fingers crossed that we don't get any injuries because we only have four defenders at the minute. "We lost over 60 goals last season, which tells you clearly that we need the defence to tighten up. Bringing in defenders is an absolute must. The fans have been writing me letters and sending e-mails complaining about the lack of defensive players - well, tell me something I don't know."
