Davies happy with battling Forest

Super-sub Robert Earnshaw grabbed his side's second-half leveller within 10 seconds of coming on in Tuesday's Championship clash at Portman Road. His goal cancelled out Grant Leadbitter's first-minute opener for Town, who are still to win a league game this season. Davies said: "It was a good draw and we're undefeated in our last seven away matches, including two very difficult ones against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and now Ipswich Town. "In the first half we were very one-paced, slow and sluggish. "We deserved exactly what we got. "But in the second there was only going to be one winner and we were unfortunate not to take all three points. "The one thing that pleases me most about this group is their character. "It's not easy when you concede a goal inside 45 seconds at a place like Ipswich. "Roy Keane will get it right here because of the quality he's brought in and that's why I was so delighted with the draw. "It was a difficult game but great credit to us, because we showed real character." Town boss Roy Keane said: "The second goal was always going to be the most important. "We had two injuries that disrupted us but overall I enjoyed it. "The game summed up where we are at the moment but there are signs of encouragement. Now we want some wins to back that up. "Generally speaking, I was happy with our performance. The effort was there and we played some decent stuff. "We're nearly there but nearly never made it sometimes." Keane praised his former club and said: "Forest have got some very good options on the bench. "The equaliser gave them momentum and they're a very decent team." Ipswich had made the best possible start after taking the lead inside 45 seconds. Carlos Edwards hurled forward a throw that was flicked on by Jon Stead. The ball reached Leadbitter, who stuck out his right leg to steer the ball goalwards. Town deserved their interval lead but lost their cohesion after the break and Forest possessed much more spark up front after bringing on Dele Adebola and Earnshaw. The pair combined for the visitors' leveller after 59 minutes. It was a brilliantly worked goal, with Earnshaw dummying a pass that allowed the ball to reach Adebola. The striker took full advantage by playing in his team-mate and the Welshmen, through on goal, coolly lifted the ball over goalkeeper Richard Wright. There was more drama in the last few seconds when Gareth McAuley was dismissed for a professional foul on Adebola.
