The numbers of English players in the Championship has risen slowly as the pool of talent available to the national team manager in the Premier League has contracted.

The figures are helped by the number of players on loan to second-tier clubs from the top-flight, including Nottingham Forest's Nathaniel Chalobah.

Karl Darlow, meanwhile, was one of 14 English goalkeepers who started in the Championship last weekend in contrast to just 2 at Premier League level. Henri Lansbury and Jack Hobbs, meanwhile, are getting regular first-team football with the Reds which they perhaps would not be in the top division.
