£3bn: the size of the prize gets ever greater for new Forest owners

The Premier League has announced yet another huge television rights deal

Despite the UK's economic woes and uncertainty across the globe it seems that English top-flight football is indeed recession-proof as Sky and BT have paid just over £3bn for the right to show live games from 2013.

That marks a 70% rise on the, already substantial, current deal and shows just why not only Premier League clubs but those with the potential to reach the top division remain an attractive proposition for investors in a week where one of Scotland's most famous and historic clubs has gone into liquidation.

Nottingham Forest are one of those clubs of course and the past few days has seen increased speculation that a takeover at the City Ground is imminent.

That speculation has come from a wide variety of sources, from the managing director of the club's new sponsors to former manager Ron Atkinson, with Kuwaiti businessman Fawaz al-Hasawi still seemingly the front-runner.

Whoever does eventually take over will be looking on enviously at the kind of riches on offer in the Premier League and hopeful that the Reds will be back at the top table in the near future.
