Spillane hoping for bigger part

The 20-year-old is back from a loan spell at Luton and hopes to impress boss Bryan Gunn - the fourth Canaries manager he has played under since making his debut over three years ago. He told the Norwich Evening News: "I'm looking forward to coming back and being part of the squad again, at last. I can't wait to get started. "It's always hard in pre-season doing all that running but there are a lot of games arranged, including one against Manchester United, so I'm looking forward to that." Speaking of his decision to accept a two-year contract extension, he added: "It was easy in a way when I spoke to the manager and he spoke about his plans for the club. It would have been difficult before when I was in a position when I wasn't playing games. It was hard at times when I wasn't playing a lot or was not involved at all." The Republic of Ireland U21 international, who can play as a central defender, midfielder or full-back, had mixed fortunes during his season at Luton. The club was relegated from the Football League but enjoyed success at Wembley, beating Scunthorpe 3-2 to win the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
