Smith blow rocks Canaries
31 Jul 2007 - 07:22:37
Norwich City loanee Jimmy Smith faces well over a month on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in a pre-season clash with Dutch side FC Zwolle.
The 20-year-old Chelsea midfielder has returned to Stamford Bridge for treatment, with Canaries boss Peter Grant ruing the setback.
He told the club's official website: "We got a scan done when he came back and that's not been as good as we expected it to be.
"Physio Neal Reynolds was near enough right with his analysis of the injury, so I think it will be a minimum of six weeks for him, so that's a big blow for us.
"We sent him back to Chelsea and they've done the exact same thing as us, they've scanned it. We handled it very well and Chelsea were very pleased with the way we handled it.
"But it's a blow to the kid, because he was doing fantastically well for us and gave us something different."
Smith came to City's attentions last season during an impressive loan stint with QPR, where he scored six goals in 31 appearances.
