Canaries lose loan defender

Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder has been handed a selection headache after Middlesbrough recalled on-loan defender Jonathan Grounds.

Grounds, 20, has made five appearances for the Canaries after joining the Championship club on a three-month loan deal last month.

However, he has now returned to the Premier League club at the request of Boro boss Gareth Southgate.

"We have been hit hard with a double whammy with Dejan Stefanovic being suspended and now Jonathan Grounds has been called back to Middlesbrough," Roeder told the club's official website.

"If I was Gareth I'd do the same. I had a good chat with him and he was happy to leave him here but he has injuries and suspensions of his own.

"At one stage we were double handed and now the cupboard's been left bare. But that's life."
