    Canaries confirmed as champions

    24 Apr 2010 - 17:31:36

Norwich City were finally confirmed as League One champions following a 2-0 home win over Gillingham.

The Canaries fans were made to wait for the goals, but Darel Russell after 74 and Michael Nelson on 82 minutes confirmed the inevitable league title.

Elsewhere, Southend United were relegated to League Two following a 2-2 draw away at Oldham Athletic.

Goals from Danny Whitaker and Paul Black, either side of a strike from Francis Laurent. put Oldham in control.

Despite Jean Yves Mvoto scoring 15 minutes from time for Southend it proved indecisive for Steve Tilson's side.

Leeds won 4-1 at home against MK Dons. The home side scored through Luciano Becchio, Max Gradel and a brace from Jermaine Beckford to overpower the Dons, who scored through Dean Lewington.

Millwall kept the pressure on Leeds at the top with a 2-1 home derby win against Leyton Orient.

Paul Robinson and Steve Morison found the net for the Lions before a late consolation from Orient's Ben Chorley.

Southampton continued their great run of form with a 3-2 win at St Mary's against Carlisle.

Michail Antonio grabbed a double for the Saints either side of half-time to add to a Ricky Lambert strike, while Ian Harte and a last minute goal from Gary Madine ensured a tense finish.

Brentford and Yeovil shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at home to Yeovil, with Gavin Tomlin finding the net for the away side, before Sam Saunders found the equaliser 14 minutes from time.

There was late drama at Brighton, as the home team scored a injury time winner from the penalty spot from Elliott Bennett - this after Glen Murray and Danny Coles saw red for either side.

Rovers opened the scoring through Andrew Williams, but Brighton were able to get back into the game thanks to a Ashley Barnes strike.

Huddersfield thrashed sorry Stockport 6-0 away from home thanks to goals from Anthony Pilkington, Theo Robinson, Jordan Rhodes, Daniel Drinkwater, Gary Roberts and Lee Novak.

Walsall gave their home fans some cheer by defeat in Hartlepool 3-1. Julian Gray, Troy Deeney and Richard Taundry scored the goals for the Saddlers while loanee Roy O'Donovan found the net for the visitors.

Wycombe look set to be relegated back to League Two following a 2-2 home draw with promotion chasing Swindon.

Despite goals from Matt Bloomfield and the in-form Alex Revell, Wycombe could not find the win they needed as Swindon twice replied through Billy Paynter and Alan Sheehan.

Colchester and Tranmere shared a 1-1 draw, a result which was also seen at Exeter, who conceded a Kyel Reid goal 18 minutes from time against Charlton at St James' Park.
