Canaries aim to keep Smith

Norwich City are keen to extend Chelsea midfielder Jimmy Smith's loan spell at Carrow Road until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old former England youth international has not featured for the Canaries this season due to an ankle problem.

However, with his loan spell set to expire in December, City boss Peter Grant is interested in approaching the Premier League club with the view to an extension.

"He's two to three weeks away from being involved," Grant told the club's official website.

"But Chelsea could lose five or six players to the African Cup of Nations in Ghana during January, so they may feel Jimmy is best going back."
