Whittingham has been in fantastic form through October, netting seven goals in four league games. The Bluebirds midfielder opened his account with two goals against Watford early in the month, before securing City's single point in a hard-fought draw against Crystal Palace.[LNB]Whittingham continued his scoring spell by stepping up to take a penalty against Coventry City, coolly slotting home the match winner. He rounded off an impressive month by bagging a hat-trick in a gutsy 3-4 away win at Bramall Lane which moved the Bluebirds up to second spot in the Championship table. [LNB]Also shortlisted for the October award in the Championship were Chris Weale of Leicester City, Adel Taarabt of Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City's Alan Tate. [LNB]Holt's excellent performances throughout October saw the striker net an impressive five goals in as many league fixtures. He began the month with a brace in the Canaries' convincing victory over Bristol Rovers, before continuing his fine form with a goal against table-topping Leeds.[LNB]A second brace away at Stockport County ended a fantastic month for the experienced striker that helped his team secure four wins from their five league fixtures and lifted them into the play-off places in League 1. [LNB]Also shortlisted for the October award in League 1 were Neil Harris of Millwall, Dean Hammond of Southampton and Southend's Lee Barnard.[LNB]Schmeichel's excellent performances in the Magpies goal helped his side remain unbeaten in October. The keeper conceded just four goals during the month, helping to earn his side a share of the points against Cheltenham Town, Torquay and Rotherham respectively.[LNB]But Schmeichel's undoubted highlight came in his side's game against Crewe Alexandra, with the Dane saving a penalty to ensure the Magpies emerged victorious and in touch with the leaders at the top of League 2. [LNB]Also shortlisted for the October award in League 2 were Drew Talbot of Chesterfield, Calvin Zola of Crewe Alexandra and Rochdale's Chris Dagnall.[LNB][LNB]
