New Walsall manager Dean Smith has made his first foray into the transfer market, signing Norwich City midfielder Matthew Gill on a month's loan. The 30-year-old could go straight into the squad for Saturday's game at one of his former clubs Exeter City. [LNB]Gill has made six appearances for the Canaries this season, the last against QPR on New Year's Day. [LNB]"He's someone who's got energy, can keep the ball moving and will cover a lot of ground," said Smith. [LNB]"He's an experienced lad who has played in something like 370 league games, so his understanding and know-how is going to be important for us in the matches that lie ahead," the Saddlers boss told the club's official website. [LNB]Gill's arrival solves Smith's shortage of central midfielders, having had only Matt Richards and Paul Marshall fit to start in recent weeks.
