Ruddy makes Stevenage pay penalty

Summer signing John Ruddy produced a fine second-half penalty save to earn Norwich a goalless draw in their pre-season friendly at Football League new-boys Stevenage. Ruddy, who has joined from Everton, dived to his right to keep out Scott Laird's 54th-minute spot-kick after defender Zak Whitbread had tripped Charlie Griffin. Substitute keeper Jed Steer also made two excellent saves after replacing Ruddy on the hour to ensure his side of a clean sheet. Simeon Jackson twice came close to marking his first appearance for City with a goal but was denied by Stevenage goalkeeper Chris Day on both occasions while acting captain Michael Nelson also went close in the first half.
