McDonald fast out of blocks

Cody McDonald scored a second-half brace as Norwich began their preparations for life back in the Championship with a 3-0 win at Dereham. Michael Nelson, who scored the goal at Charlton which clinched promotion in April, put City ahead in the 24th minute by stabbing home from close range before McDonald netted twice in quick succession after the break. Summer signings John Ruddy, David Fox and Andrew Crofts were named in the starting line-up with fellow new arrivals Steven Smith and Andrew Surman appearing in the second half. Elliott Ward, a free-transfer from Coventry, did not feature, while City gave a run-out to a Brazilian trialist.
