Canaries thrash sorry Colchester

Paul Lambert enjoyed a sweet return to Colchester as his Norwich side cruised to a 5-0 victory at the Community Stadium. The win sees Norwich cut the gap on League One leaders to three points, and renews hopes that the Canaries can mount a substantial title challenge. The visitors opened the scoring after 16 minutes through Chris Martin, who fired home after Danny Batth scuffed a clearance straight at Russell Martin. Colchester threatened when Antony Wordsworth and Phil Ifil went close, although Norwich doubled their lead just before the interval thanks to Martin's second, which was a neat finish from 12 yards. Veteran defender Gary Doherty made it 3-0 after 49 minutes with an emphatic finish as the Us failed to clear Wes Hoolahan's free-kick. Hoolahan missed a penalty after Okuonghae fouled Holt, although substitute Oli Johnson and Holt rounded off a fine win as Ian Henderson saw red for Colchester following a lunge at Darel Russell.
