McDonald hopes for Harriers shock

Northwich Victoria boss Alvin McDonald has begun to make his mark on the Wincham Park squad ahead of the FA Cup first round trip to Kidderminster Harriers.

McDonald signed ex-Harriers forward Hugh McAuley, Shrewsbury Town midfielder Karl Murray and former Morecambe defender Paul McGuire before last weekend's 1-0 loss at Barnet.

Now all three men will try and help the Vics create a shock at Aggborough, with McDonald happy with his new arrivals.

He told the Northwich Chronicle: "This is a winnable game. They are second from bottom in the Third Division and having regular off days.

"Karl is a Val Owen-type and is with us for a month initially and hopefully he will want to stay and we can afford him. It may be significant that Jimmy Quinn has no objection to him being cup-tied.

"Our outlay at the moment has been negligible because McGuire and McAuley played without any mention of money."
