Thompson answers Worthington call

Published: 08 Aug 2011 - 16:00:16

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington has added Linfield striker Peter Thompson to his squad for Wednesday night's Euro 2012 qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

Worthington was already without first-choice striker Kyle Lafferty for the match due to a hernia injury and has seen his resources further stretched by the withdrawals of Josh McQuoid (hamstring) and Martin Paterson (thigh) as well as doubts over Warren Feeney.

To add insult to those injuries, uncapped Derry City forward James McClean opted to pull out of the squad having decided his international future lay with the Republic of Ireland.
